Although it is a bit of a bear to assemble, the Shuttle travel system--in the adorable pale blue and sage green Malawi jungle print--provides a cozy ride for babies of either gender. The three-piece set is comprised of an infant carrier, a car seat base, and a stroller to outfit baby for either car or sidewalk travel. The infant carrier securely locks into the car seat base using Baby Trend’s tried-and-true Flex-Loc system or snaps rear-facing onto the front tray of the stroller for walks. Designed to carry babies from 5 to 22 pounds, the carrier has a strong five-point safety harness, a decent-sized canopy, and a rubber-coated triangular handle for an ergonomic, no-slip grip.

The corresponding stroller navigates smoothly on two 9-inch back wheels and four 8-inch front wheels. A gigantic canopy provides ample shelter from sun and wind exposure and, when used with the carrier, meets the carrier’s canopy to completely blacken the area for a napping baby. Larger babies can sit right in the reclining stroller seat, which is padded for comfort, and rest their feet on the oversized footrest. For parents, there is a comfortable push bar that includes a quick-release button to collapse and fold the stroller using one hand. The Shuttle also has a fairly large parent tray with a covered compartment and drink holder and a drop-down storage basket for easy access to baby gear or shopping bags. The car seat is LATCH-compliant and all components of the travel system are certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, an independent lab that tests for safety in children’s products. --Cristina Vaamonde

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel System!, September 10, 2005
This review is from: Travel System - Malawi (Baby Product)
I bought this travel system before I needed it because my two year old destroyed her old stroller and I thought I would save some money and just buy a travel system now instead of separating the two purchases because I'm only about half way through my 2nd pregnancy. It took only about 10 minutes to put this stroller together. It is everything I want in a stroller. Large underneath basket, great reclining system, the child tray swings up making it easy for my toddler to get in and out (she loves the "gate!") The child tray pops out for easy cleaning, and there is also a great parent tray, not as many stroller come with this as one would think and it is such a necessity. It folds easily, one just has to push two buttons at once and it collapses, this is where my ONLY complaint comes in. It folds down really fast and will slam into the ground but if you just use two hands you can slow it down. Using it with my two year old on a gravel road, it gives a smooth, silent ride. There is also a...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars nice system with a few flaws, October 7, 2005

Overall this is a nice travel system but it does have some design flaws.Thebiggest problem that I have with mine is the strap on the back of the stroller that changes the seat from upright to recline. This is the absolute worst!! It is very diffifult to change the postion and nearly impossible to get the seat completely upright without messing around with it. I figured out a way to get it upright but I have to either leave it in that postion or unhook it to make it completely flat. It has to be layed down in order for it to fold up right so I always have to fix it again when I am ready to use it.

As far as some people saying they had a problem with the carseat and their baby's head not reclining right, we do not have a problem with that. When we first used it we did but then realized that the base has different positions to recline a newborn baby all the way back and you won't have that problem. Also if the seats in your car have a deep incline you may have to take a...Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Hazardous and Should be Recalled, January 31, 2006
By

This review is from: Travel System - Malawi (Baby Product)
My Husband and I were in the Babies "R" Us store comparing travel systems and pretty much had one in mind, already. I saw the colors on the Malawi Travel System and it caught my attention. As we were looking at it's features, an associate that works at the store walked by us and said only these words to us, "You don't want that one." He kept on walking to assist a customer with something and we went over to ask him what it was about this travel system that made him say not to purchase it. All he had to do was to walk back over to where we were looking at the model and he proceeded to reach over and quickly grab the release on the top of the handle, which could easily be grabbed by anyone by mistake (or by an accompanying child walking with you). In a flash, the entire stroller, car seat and all, collapsed, flipping the carseat backwards and hitting the floor. If a baby were to be in the stroller and that happened, the baby would flip back and crack his/her head on the ground,...Read more
