About Columbia Sportswear Founded in 1938, Columbia Sportswear Company has grown from a small family-owned hat distributor to one of the world's largest outerwear brands and the leading seller of ski-wear in the United States. Columbia's extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia specializes in developing innovative products that are functional yet stylish and offer great value. Eighty-year-old matriarch Gert Boyle, Chairman of the Board, and her son, Tim Boyle, President and CEO, lead the company.
Columbia's history starts with Gert's parents, Paul and Marie Lamfrom, when they fled Germany in 1937. They bought a small hat distributorship in Portland, Oregon, and named it Columbia Hat Company, after the river bordering the city. Soon frustrated by poor deliveries from suppliers, the Lamfroms decided to start manufacturing products themselves. In 1948, Gert married college sweetheart Neal Boyle, who joined the family business and later took the helm of the growing company. When Neal suddenly died of a heart attack in 1970, Gert enlisted help from Tim, then a college senior. After that, it wasn't long before business really started to take off. Columbia was one of the first companies to make jackets from waterproof/breathable fabric. They introduced the breakthrough technology called the Columbia Interchange System, in which a shell and liner combine for multiple wearing options. In the early 1980s, then 60-year-old Gert began her role as "Mother Boyle" in Columbia's successful and popular advertising campaign.
The company went public in 1998 and moved into a new era as a world leader in the active outdoor apparel industry. Today, Columbia Sportswear employs more than 1,800 people around the world and distributes and sells products in more than 50 countries and to more than 12,000 retailers internationally.

What a fantastic jogging stroller!, July 31, 2008

What a fantastic stroller! Light, sturdy, spacious, sporty, and extremely well built. I've been on the hunt for several months for a jogging stroller and have had the opportunity to have hands on tryouts of various other jogging strollers (InStep Safari, Schwinn, Jeep Overland, etc.). I also had to narrow my search to my budget of $250. From my research & hands on comparisons, I can confidently say that the Columbia jogging stroller is the best in this category. Let me tell you what I didn't like about the other strollers. The Safari InStep is nice looking and sells for a low price but is small, very cumbersome (as were all of these) even in its folded position, and had many cheap plastic parts. The Schwinn was rather small as well and had a lot of parts made of plastic. The Jeep Overland is very attractive but lacks a swivel on its front wheel, which makes it very impractical in many situations. It is also heavy and very bulky even in its broken down position. The Columbia...Read more

This sporty jogger by Columbia is very nice. Its very easy to handle especially with the swivel wheel and not to mention light weight and easy to fold and carry. My son weighs about 47 pounds (4 almost 5 yrs old) and he fits in it just fine. I plan to use this with my third child that is going to be born this December and i know this stroller will last throughout the years. Very durable. It has two large spaces for bottles of water of any size. And a nice sized zippered pocket for keys and cell phones and things. The bag underneath has a drawstring closure that can easily hold a purse or small- medium sized diaper bag. I love Columbia. :)

GREAT JOGGER STROLLER!!!, August 18, 2008

I bought this jogger stroller right before heading to a recent vacation. My 3 year old son is 37 pounds and fit so easily into this stroller with about 7-8 more inches of head room above him still. This will last a long time! It assembled within 5 minutes so easily! It pushes so easily with my son in it, it feels as if he isn't even in there - so light and smooth to push. The swivel wheel was very easy to push through sand, rocky terrain, crowds at a carnival, and on sidewalks. The adjustable handlebar is great and makes a comfortable pushing height for anyone. I am 5'5 and my husband is 5'10 and we both pushed with ease. There are quite a few storage pockets and 2 nice deep places for bottled beverages. It may be tough to store a large diaper bag but the under seat storage would definitely hold a medium sized diaper bag without trouble. I did find the seatbelt straps a little hard to use. It is a 5 point harness strap but the shoulder straps didn't seem to stay on my son's shoulders...Read more
